Inaction is an Underrated Form of Action
Sitting alone on a blanket in the middle of your local park is free. And it’s the best antidote to procrastination and writer’s block. Sitting around and doing nothing on purpose—that’s how you unlock creativity.
Otherwise what happens is a build up of “shoulds.”
I should be writing
I should be getting more views
I should work on my next project
I should tweak my website
Balance your action with inaction. The writing washes the world off your soul, and inaction washes the shoulds off your writing.
Create space for your mind to do nothing. Don’t do it to be more productive, that would be missing the point. Do nothing because it’s good for your soul… it reestablishes your connection to the Muses, and lets you dance into chaos.
Your sitting doesn’t have to be actual sitting. Take your dog for a walk, or do what I did and take your one year old daughter on a breakfast date in the park. If you don’t have a one year old daughter to take to the park, ask your neighborhood tired moms and dads—they’d love the break.
Enough for now, go outside.

I’ve been making it a habit to send a longer piece out once per week. Next week we’re going to tackle outlining, and I thought it would make more sense to send out shorter posts more frequently.
Let me know if you like it.
